Since the public revelation that Cambridge Analytica harvested personal data of millions of Facebook users, Facebook’s privacy policies have been under a brighter spotlight than ever before. But these issues are not new to Irish Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon – her office has been working with Facebook on privacy issues and GDPR preparations for quite some time. Dixon sat down with the Cybersecurity Law Report and gave her frank perspective on recent privacy disputes regarding Facebook, which has its European operations based in Ireland, and a range of other issues regarding the imminent implementation of the GDPR. In part one of our series, she discusses supervising Facebook, talks about how her office coordinates with other jurisdictions and discusses how that coordination will change under the GDPR.
